The inspiration behind this book is to inspire women who have experienced and survived domestic and family violence.
Sharing food has always been some of the truly big moments of family gatherings, of building traditions. Whether out bush or in town, mothers and grandmothers, and the occasional dad, have always been able to create just the right amount of food to feed everyone, even unexpected visitors. They often started with simple and few ingredients but presented us with amazing and delicious food. In remote and isolated parts of Queensland, ingredients were often supplemented with bush tucker or bush tucker was supplemented with store bought food.
The many different cultures who made this part of Queensland home have contributed flavours that have now become staples of all our meals. These recipes come with reminders and memories of generations.
Those stories are now part of the flavours stirred into the pot, continuing our traditions of food and family gatherings.
Enjoy.
